Woodrat 2007

For Memorial day weekend and the week following we went to Woodrat in Ruch, OR. It was sweet. Really sweet.
We spent one night in the Redwoods of Northern Cali but the rest were in Oregon. Justin's best friend and his wife came down from Portland for the weekend and there was a good group of SLC pilots there too. Cloudbase, landing in wine vineyards, sweet camping, fishing, lotsa good friends and lotsa flying...I don't think it could have got any better

Landing at Woodrat after a glass off flight... We will get more pictures of flying up soon, Carolyn took a bunch of cool pics.

The Longsword Winery...they let us land in a field they weren't using

Check out these clouds...this was our cloudbase day...

Oh, and I have some video that I will get up soon too :)

I finally got a picture

My lame-o humans finally got a pic of me. My girlfriend is in the pics with me and Bodhi but she occasionally beats me up and then cheats on me with Bodhi. The students are out in full force on the south side. That makes me neurotic. So I dug a big hole. There, that'll show them.

North Side

So, I'm over doing the site run down thing...

Here are some sweet pics that Justin took of me flyin his wing on Sunday night

The South Side

Ahh, the south side.... With all it's weeds and occasional nuclear winds it is the best place have your first flights. It offers some of the best opportunities to get good at ground handling from trying to get to the edge in 18mph winds to kiting up hill from the bottom because you can't get off the top. Well you can also walk downhill and take a turn at side hill launching in windy wind. When the students are out in full force you may get yelled at from the ground to follow the pattern, yeah yeah. I would just opt not to fly when the air is full of harnesses with yellow streamer tape. Swoop as you like but don't break your leg or wreck in any fashion cuz thats lame. I prefer to swoop over the west bowl and often some natives to the sky will join in. Watch out for this place blowin up all quick like. It can turn fully on in minutes- not only in wind but rippin thermals. Some people like it hot and that's cool but if you are suddenly alone in the air you may want to wonder why. Don't get blown back cuz that's lame too and people will sit at the cars and talk smack about you. Dog rules: 1. You know your dog will not pee on gliders 2. you pick up the poop your dog lays down 3. they have to get along with Bodhi (seeing it's his favorite site). In the summer this place is normally done at 10am and in the winter you can fly here all day. Early bird gets the worm.

The Pilots

Justin and Becky

We started paragliding together in August of 2004 and it has forever changed our view on life; neither one of us would trade it for anything. From going on vacation to places we probably would have never gone to what defines a normal Saturday in Salt Lake City. We have been to lotsa places and have had some incredible experiences. We are working on our list of places we want to go every year and here are some of our best known sites and favorites.

Bodhi
This is Bodhi, he is five and paragliding is his favorite past time. He loves to follow his human all over the hill and is very good at keeping his eye on the right one. He prefers to follow Justin but when he isn't there he follows Becky. He can run for days. His favorite site is the South Side.
Yoda
I don't have a pic cuz my humans are lame. I'm cute I promise. I am four years old and got with my paragliding brother and humans in August 2006. I just follow bodhi around and have been clocked running at 22mph racing the car. I am a fast guy and when we dont' get to go fly I develop a neurotic streak. The South Side keeps me from having to take sedatives.
